Dear valued client,
The uncertainty and concerns surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is on the forefront of all of our minds. As we strive to maintain a productive workforce, federal guidance has been emerging in this area.
The president has signed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) into law. The new legislation provides relief for both employees and employers. Employers with less than 500 employees are required to provide a certain amount of Paid Sick Leave and Paid Leave to employees affected by COVID-19. In return, employers are provided with refundable payroll tax credits, designed to immediately and fully reimburse employers, dollar-for-dollar, for the cost of providing Coronavirus-related leave to their employees.
The legislation will enable employers to keep their workers on their payrolls, while at the same time ensuring that workers are not forced to choose between their paychecks and the public health measures needed to combat the virus.
Many details of the legislation are yet to be ironed out. We are monitoring the ongoing developments and will be releasing guidance and system updates before the end of the week.
